About this blog

I’m a 27-year old female biochemist who recently moved to the UK for an adventure as postdoc. You can read here what a trockeneisbombe is, although I have decided to change the name of my blog from Trockeneisbombe to Dr.K.

Why this blog?
Initially, I thought I’d like to share insights about the scientific world with the outside world. They are, after all, those who pay for it – and benefit from it in the long run. Directly caused by my PhD defense, where most of my family and friends had no clue what it is all about and I had to conclude I am really bad at explaining what I do… I figured that through a blog, I might practice a little and improve!

But during the year I’ve had this blog, I discovered that I also like to discuss current events in academia. As well as describe some of my ways to deal with publishing, presentations, grant writing and so on. Maybe others can learn from the mistakes I made, or get some new ideas from my good practices. To be able to browse the blog efficiently, I’ve generated a page listing some of the most interesting posts.

Oh, and before I forget. I like cats.

  1. All the best to your thesis defense, and as Carl Sagan would agree, may you shine brightly and illuminate ignorance, superstitions and bigotries as well as other dark corners through science.

I would also like to add that it is very important for scientists to learn about the history of science, the philosophy of science, and the sociology of science, to have a better, deeper and longitudinal understanding of the evolution of science as well as the pitfalls, the reliability and the internal and external validities of science.

  2. oh, great my goal is to have a phd too, but my interest is mainly in maths, and some how in physics, currently studying engineering at my firsy year, i think when i reach the third year, i will organize my time to do pure math too

      1. lol, am for me it is exactly the opposite, i sometimes call math, “my love life” not that i am a nerd or something, to be honest i dont study alot, but i love math, and every day, i feel i love it lore than the day before
